Once upon an EAHIL conference in the beautiful city of Dublin two information professionals from the South West of England had the great idea of gathering all interested health information professionals from the region into one place.
Last week this idea was realised when 12 people from five organisations came together to meet and share ideas. We had six embedded information specialists from the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth, one University Librarian from Exeter and five NHS Librarians from Exeter, Plymouth and Truro.
We structured the day to allow ideas to flow and knowledge to be exchanged.
- we scratched our heads at Lorna’s Boolean operators
- had some great interactive teaching ideas from Catriona and Katy,
- were impressed by Cate’s determination in building a repository for the Exeter Health Library
- spent time downloading our collaborative research ideas
- got critical with an information retrieval methods paper chosen for us by Morwenna
We all enjoyed meeting each other and talking shop without the need to explain the thrill and excitement of our obvious interests in searching, teaching and evidence. The story does not end here as we are already looking forward to a spring meeting in Plymouth to continue to share, support and collaborate.
Thanks to Alison and Lorna for getting the SouthWest Information Professionals (SWIPs) forum off the ground, to those who attended and to those who will contribute in the future.
